School, Eco and Food Council

School and Eco Council

The School and Eco Council consists of 15 representative (7 School and 8 Eco) who have each been voted for by their peers. Individual classes regularly debate whole school issues that they consider unjust or in need of change and their council representatives bring these grievances, ideas or queries to our meetings.

The 15 representatives are in post for one year and meet every two weeks to discuss different aspects of the running of the school. In the past new staff appointments, the introduction of new playground equipment and the purchase of our school pet fish have all been influenced by the School and Eco Council. Every member wears a `School Council` or `Eco Council` badge so they can be easily recognised by others and they always lead by example.

LOCKDOWN/ School Restrictions

Due to the current pandemic, all School and Eco Council meetings are being held on Zoom (during the current Lockdown) and via Teams when we are in school.

Food Council Update

We have been busy improving our school lunches and dining room facilities.

Before

Lining up for lunch- Some of us commented ‘It would take ages to get our lunch’

We did not have lots of links with the school cook and her team.

Juniors would have small cups and we felt like we needed a bigger drink.

After

We have wrist bands and lunchtime supervisors hand these to us so that getting our lunch is much quicker.

Now our school cook is highly involved in our food council meetings to help plan our themed lunches which our classes plan with us over the year

We have a display board.

We have a birthday table.

We get certificates in assemblies for best class at lunch time.

Now we have bigger cups.

Salad bar service- some of the KS2 children help us to try out new foods from the salad bar.

Feedback from parents who have attended themed lunches

“What a lovely idea, I look forward to this again”.

“I thought the choice was good and all went well we were very surprised”.

“All the food looked lovely and was good to be able to join in with my child for school dinner”.
