Sacramentle Preperation
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
At school we work alongside parents and the parish catechists to help to guide and support our children to make their Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. The children prepare for these special occasions by attending a number of sessions in church, usually on a Saturday.
To take part in these Sacraments, your child must be baptised. Baptism can be arrange through the church to take place at set dates during the year. The sacramental program is usually undertake in Year 4 however we are happy to help facilitate this at a later stage. Please contact the parish priest in church for more information.
If you have any questions about this year’s Sacramental Programme, please speak to Mrs. Sumner at school.
Sacramental Overview
FIRST RECONCILIATION
‘Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned.’ (Psalm 32: 1)
Pupils prepare for their First Reconciliation (sometimes known as confession or the Sacrament of Penance). The children are taught about the importance of saying sorry for the mistakes they make and reflect on God’s great love for them and His willingness to always forgive.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
‘I am the Bread of Life. Those who come to Me will never be hungry.’ (John 6: 35)
Our pupils are usually prepared for receiving their First Eucharist in Year 4. The children spend time learning about, and reflecting on, the tremendous gift of the Eucharist and receive their First Holy Communion.
CONFIRMATION
‘When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for Me.’ (Acts 1: 8)
Pupils normally receive the Sacrament of Confirmation once they reach high school in 7. The sacrament renews and strengthens their baptismal call to bear witness to Christ before the world and to devote themselves to the building up of His body, which is the Church.
