Intent
The Art and Design curriculum provides invaluable opportunities for pupils to communicate their ideas and emotions through exploration of physical and social interaction. At St Richards, our intention is to inspire and stimulate children’s creativity and imagination through the arts giving them a means of both verbal and non-verbal communication. Art and Design are taught discreetly, with planned progression across school. Our teaching is fully inclusive and uses a range of cross cultural, inspirational resources. We ensure that children with special educational needs are given access and opportunity to take part in all performing arts activities.
Implementation
Art will be delivered in lessons that allow the children to build up a board range of experience and knowledge of different art mediums, artists and significant works of art. They will gain skills in assessing and drawing inspiration from established and famous artists and use this to develop their own skill and style. Additional opportunities will be given in other areas of the curriculum to use the skills they have learnt to create and share their ideas in artistic interpretations
Impact
Pupils will develop their artistic ability and understanding in line with the National Curriculum. They will broaden their understanding of Art and Design and build confidence in creating their own art and sharing their ideas creatively.
