Helping our local and global communities
This year we once again celebrated Harvest with parents from Year 5 and Year 6. Our harvest theme this year was Brighten up this Harvest, in support of Cafod. Our children had been learning about the difficulties facing refugees, forced to flee from their homes. We also learned about the right of every child to be allowed to play.
Our SVP friend, Michael Caffrey, joined us together with his colleagues and gratefully received our hampers which will be distributed to our neighbours in the local community.
A huge thank you to you all for your generosity.
We celebrated Harvest with parents from Years 4 and 6. Our regular visitors, SVP also attended and it was great to welcome Michael Caffrey back after his long illness. He was joined this year by Michael Myles. They gratefully received the many hampers which were made up from your generous contributions. These hampers will be distributed to needy families in our local community. Once again, SVP were overwhelmed by the support St Richard’s provides to this cause.
COMMUNITY GIFT DAY
Our Community Gift Day was held on Wednesday 17th November. Mr Myles, our SVP visitor, joined us and was once again overwhelmed by your very generous gifts. All the gifts were distributed to the needy families/children/teenagers within our local community which we know will have brought a smile to their faces.

We would like to thank everyone for their very generous effort in supporting the above cause. You raised over £240. Once again, thank you for your generosity.
Cafod World Gifts – Big Silly Share/Harvest events
Our CAFOD Big Silly Share event raised over £300. This money will be used to help our neighbours in the global world through World Gifts. This year the children have chosen a variety of gifts including a Donkey that delivers, Chirpy Chickens, healthy Mum and baby, Goat that gives as well as a number of other items, showing their love and wishes for peace and joy for others. Watch out for confirmation certificates in school.

YEAR 5 FUNDRAISING EVENT
Some of the children in Year 5 were shocked at the dreadful events in El Salvador and the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone. They decided to give up some of their lunch times during the week of 15th December to hold sponsored events to help raise money for CAFOD to support their work in these countries.
By holding a ‘Beat the Goalie’, ‘Knock the Skittles’, ‘Art challenge’, ‘Name the Dog’ and ‘Slalom Racing’ events the children managed to raise an amazing £57.49. The events were so popular that the children want to stage another Fundraising event in the Spring Term. Watch this space!
Well done Year 5!
Many thanks to all our families for your continued support! At St Richard’s we really do make a difference.
